hosting workshop – what is a host and what do they do

Yesterday I hosted a workshop about hosting and community generating on (and across) the increasingly prolific number of solutions which are readily available, in contrast to those we know and really like (i.e. message boards and blogs). I’ve created notes of the text.
Black text is what I really feel the golden guidelines of hosting anywhere are. Green text is text that we added in the course of the workshop, which is about specific services. The notion was to compare and contrast to see whether or not the role of community managers is altering.
It seemed to me that the golden guidelines are nevertheless the exact same, but some things are more proper on some services than other individuals.
